Provisions at Food 52

I’m so excited about the new kitchen shop over at Food 52! It’s been one of my favorite food sites for a while, but now, with the addition of an e-commerce platform called Provisions, I have yet one more reason to go there! Founded by former New York Times food editor Amanda Hesser and Le Cordon Bleu graduate Merrill Stubbs, Food 52 has always been filled with interesting recipes and gorgeous, clean photographs. They continue this approach with their products, offering items that are simple, minimalist, and rustic. Perfect accessories for fall entertaining! I was immediately taken with the cake box and the trivet, but, really, there are so many pieces that I love. Kristen Kieffer Cake Stands

When it comes to cake stands, I’m a real sucker. There’s nothing like a cute pedestal to add some extra fun and sass to your cake presentation and these cake stands by potter Kristen Kieffer will definitely do the trick! Created by Kristen in her workshop in Massachusetts, the stands manage to be simultaneously vintage and modern. I love the deco elements and the red and white carnival like stripes on the cherry piece. So fun!

From Kristen: All of my pottery is one-of-a-kind, and designed and handmade by me alone in my studio. I threw this form in two parts on the potter’s wheel, and later carved the foot and “skirt” to create a playful undulation. I decorate the surface with sponged and trailed slip (the clay version of, well actually, cake-decorating) in shallow textures of swirls, dots, and patterns. My influences vary from Art Nouveau to Haute Couture and furniture to fondant, and these stands bring it all together!

Tree Pedestal Cake Stand (DIY)

For those of you looking for a more environmentally friendly choice in your cake stand options, the Tree Pedestal Cake Stand from Laurie at Once Wed is the stand for you! It's a really creative way to take found material and turn it into something useful and lovely. I was wondering, though, can you just use any old piece of tree that you find in the woods? How do you know when the wood it too rotted to use? Okay, maybe those are naive questions, but, really, I don't know the answers! Anyway, I was really impressed with how well these turned out, given that not much has changed from the original pieces. I even love the cake topper!
